It says just minor updated, but out of the ones below, I think I have had issues with the highlighted one.

Out of memory, Unable to send SMS
Images cut off in Picasa
Group contacts not in alphabetical order
Integrated voice recognition accuracy with voice search and voice-to-text
Image size issue with contact transfer over Bluetooth

I currently don’t have a disk space issue, so I don’t know if I’ll notice if anything was actually fixed

They’re called A-1 Courier and they’ve apparently done this kind of thing before for screw ups like me. Very good on the phone and it’s nice when you can take care of long distance stuff using a local service that knows what they’re doing. Anyway, that’s my two cents worth about this good experience.

But my HTC EVO battery life was fairly poor when I first got it (one of the first things I learned was how to keep all unnecessary things like Wifi and 4G turned off) — And it’s not getting better. Anyone know if I got a replacement if it would be any better?

Note that Sprint and Thumbplay are actively working on a fix, so the steps below may be unnecessary soon.

Michael (a Thumbplay employee) recently posted in the Thumbplay support site:

For any HTC EVO users who received the 3.70.651.1 update pushed in the last 1-2 weeks by Sprint – Thumbplay Music has become aware that this update has changed the Android platform to proxy all HTTP traffic on Sprint’s CDMA data network through a broken proxy which breaks Thumbplay Music and many other media streaming apps.

Google, HTC, & Sprint have been engaged regarding this issue but we do not have an ETA . In the meantime, Thumbplay Music will continue to function properly over wifi networks.

Alternatively, for those of you who have rooted phones or know the MSL (Master Subsidy Lock) code for your phone, you can also unset the “http pd proxy host” in your ##data# menu. Exactly how to do this or obtain the code is an exercise left to the customer.

To obtain the MSL, here is a thread on XDA-Developers which walks through how to do this with a tool called MSL Reader and CDMA Workshop.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=697487

If that looks daunting, you can use the advice below to call Sprint –

call Sprint, and say something to the affect that your phone won’t connect to the internet, and updating the data profile won’t help…or tell them pressing and holding the 1 doesn’t call voicemail…they will go through the proccess to fix it, which on the VM side is dialing ##{MSL CODE}# save that code…you’ll use it for step three [below]!

1) Dial ##3282#
2) Choose Edit Mode
3) Enter MSL
4) Choose Advanced
5) Change HTTP PD Proxy Port to: 0
6) Change HTTP PD Proxy Address to: 0.0.0.0

Good luck and let us know how it goes! This took me less than 10 minutes (granted I know my way around computers a bit) and Thumbplay started working immediately without even re-booting the HTC EVO!

Response from VP of Operations to the first post –

Hi, I came across your posting and wanted to provide you an update regarding the issue you have described affecting Thumbplay Music. HTC EVO users who received the 3.70.651.1 update pushed in the last 1-2 weeks by Sprint have experienced service interruptions for many media streaming applications. Sprint, Google and HTC are all aware of this issue and are working on a fix. What is Thumbplay doing? We are working closely with all the above mentioned players to find a quick resolution. We will be offering pro-rated refunds to all our affected customers and we are aggressively researching a viable workaround – if one exists. Now the good news: Thumbplay Music will work on WiFi. Your wife still gave you a killer gift (access to millions of songs). This will get fixed and you will get Thumbplay Music back! Please send me an email tomichael@thumbplay.com so I can work directly with you. We appreciate your patience.

I asked my wife to have Thumbplay for the Holidays, I’m not much of a music listener or collector anymore, but the idea of having all songs and new releases available appealed to me. I first tried the Thumbplay trial and was impressed, the Offline capability especially looked compelling as I know I don’t have great reception everywhere while commuting.

For due diligence, I tried Rhapsody, and the search and other functions were extremely slow (on the Android at least). I remember a few times going into the gym and I started walking on the treadmill while fiddling with Rhapsody to get my tunes started, it would hit the seven minute mark and still not be working so I would give up and just switch to FM on my HTC Evo and walk TV or listen or NPR – or at least in one case, switching back to my expired trial of Thumbplay to hear 30 second clips – which came in practically instantly (no delays with search and failed plays, etc.).

So, I know there’s other subscription music services for the Android I could have tried, but this was a no brainer, the Thumbplay simply worked, Rhapsody simply didn’t.

So I signed myself up, kissed my wife and thanked her for my Christmas present ($120 for the year, a not insignificant present!). I didn’t get much of a chance to play it the first few days, but on Dec. 23rd we started a 9 hour car trip and figured I could show off and bring up all my kid’s favorite songs, obscure Christmas tunes, etc. But NO GO!

Apparently Google or Thumbplay made some recent update which caused TP for the Android to fail – at least on the HTC EVO. My paid service was at this point just into four days and this was the first real time I was trying it. I called TP’s Customer Service and explained the situation, and rather than immediately confirm there is a known issue with the HTC EVO, she stopped me and we spent about 3 minutes getting all my information, confirming I have a paid subscription (at first she said she could only find my trial signup), etc. and then finally confirmed that Thumbplay for HTC EVO is broken. No ETA for the fix, and no way to issue my credit for the days the service is AWOL.

She suggested I wait for a week and if it still doesn’t work for HTC EVO, then cancel and ask for a credit to be issued. It’s pretty disappointing as TP used to work superbly on my HTC EVO, and now who know how long it will take to be fixed. Hopefully before we head back (another 9 hour drive) four days from now. I’m going to look for a blog or forum regarding TP’s service, will let you know how it goes!

I’m looking forward to more Android updates for Galcon, I think it’s a terrific fun game well-suited to the tiny phone screens of mobile devices.

Some chat capabilities such as with Galcon Fusion would be nice as well as better integration with the forum.

What do you think? If you have suggestions of comments regarding Galcon on iOS and Android, please post below.

I think this guy Phil Hassey is pretty neat in that he approaches his projects like fun programming challenges as opposed to a typical mobile game development company. I think it makes his games and projects much for engaging.
