But my HTC EVO battery life was fairly poor when I first got it (one of the first things I learned was how to keep all unnecessary things like Wifi and 4G turned off) — And it’s not getting better. Anyone know if I got a replacement if it would be any better?

Michael (a Thumbplay employee) recently posted in the Thumbplay support site:

For any HTC EVO users who received the 3.70.651.1 update pushed in the last 1-2 weeks by Sprint – Thumbplay Music has become aware that this update has changed the Android platform to proxy all HTTP traffic on Sprint’s CDMA data network through a broken proxy which breaks Thumbplay Music and many other media streaming apps.

Google, HTC, & Sprint have been engaged regarding this issue but we do not have an ETA . In the meantime, Thumbplay Music will continue to function properly over wifi networks.

Alternatively, for those of you who have rooted phones or know the MSL (Master Subsidy Lock) code for your phone, you can also unset the “http pd proxy host” in your ##data# menu. Exactly how to do this or obtain the code is an exercise left to the customer.

To obtain the MSL, here is a thread on XDA-Developers which walks through how to do this with a tool called MSL Reader and CDMA Workshop.

If that looks daunting, you can use the advice below to call Sprint –

call Sprint, and say something to the affect that your phone won’t connect to the internet, and updating the data profile won’t help…or tell them pressing and holding the 1 doesn’t call voicemail…they will go through the proccess to fix it, which on the VM side is dialing ##{MSL CODE}# save that code…you’ll use it for step three [below]!

1) Dial ##3282#
2) Choose Edit Mode
3) Enter MSL
4) Choose Advanced
5) Change HTTP PD Proxy Port to: 0
6) Change HTTP PD Proxy Address to: 0.0.0.0

Good luck and let us know how it goes! This took me less than 10 minutes (granted I know my way around computers a bit) and Thumbplay started working immediately without even re-booting the HTC EVO!
