I’m sure I’ve not been the most kind to my battery, my wife often gives me unsolicited advice about why I should or should not be charging my phone or admonishes me for touching her phone (I swear it was almost dead when I plugged it in to charge it for her!)

But my HTC EVO battery life was fairly poor when I first got it (one of the first things I learned was how to keep all unnecessary things like Wifi and 4G turned off) — And it’s not getting better. Anyone know if I got a replacement if it would be any better?

Note that Sprint and Thumbplay are actively working on a fix, so the steps below may be unnecessary soon.

Michael (a Thumbplay employee) recently posted in the Thumbplay support site:

For any HTC EVO users who received the 3.70.651.1 update pushed in the last 1-2 weeks by Sprint – Thumbplay Music has become aware that this update has changed the Android platform to proxy all HTTP traffic on Sprint’s CDMA data network through a broken proxy which breaks Thumbplay Music and many other media streaming apps.

Google, HTC, & Sprint have been engaged regarding this issue but we do not have an ETA . In the meantime, Thumbplay Music will continue to function properly over wifi networks.

Alternatively, for those of you who have rooted phones or know the MSL (Master Subsidy Lock) code for your phone, you can also unset the “http pd proxy host” in your ##data# menu. Exactly how to do this or obtain the code is an exercise left to the customer.

To obtain the MSL, here is a thread on XDA-Developers which walks through how to do this with a tool called MSL Reader and CDMA Workshop.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=697487

If that looks daunting, you can use the advice below to call Sprint –

call Sprint, and say something to the affect that your phone won’t connect to the internet, and updating the data profile won’t help…or tell them pressing and holding the 1 doesn’t call voicemail…they will go through the proccess to fix it, which on the VM side is dialing ##{MSL CODE}# save that code…you’ll use it for step three [below]!

1) Dial ##3282#
2) Choose Edit Mode
3) Enter MSL
4) Choose Advanced
5) Change HTTP PD Proxy Port to: 0
6) Change HTTP PD Proxy Address to: 0.0.0.0

Good luck and let us know how it goes! This took me less than 10 minutes (granted I know my way around computers a bit) and Thumbplay started working immediately without even re-booting the HTC EVO!

I have a sprint phone so I could not get a I phone since I do not want to switch our service. Now I am looking forward for this good news to come, the HTC touch diamond, this will come out in April, I can’t wait to get this one, then I will never miss my e mail. This is very important for me as I am a real estate agent and I need to check my e mail frequetly. Right now I am still relying the computer.

With the touch of a finger, check your work and personal email, surf the web on the 2.8″ touch-screen and access your personal photos, videos and music stored on the 4GB of internal memory.
